Velma Marie Long, 83 of Paris, MO entered into eternal worship on Sunday, August 19th at 8:30 a.m. in Columbia, MO at Boone Hospital.
She was born on October 10, 1934 in Moline, MO. Velma was the daughter of Ben Fugate and Rosie Fugate. She attended Lincoln School in Moberly, MO. Velma worked In Home Health Care, as a clerk at Willard Revis, and she was also a homemaker.
Velma married Grady Long on January 16th, 1954 in Paris, MO. She is survived by 7 children; Ronald Shepard (Mary), Sandra Berry (Maurice), Bishop Harold Long (Deborah), Brenda Craine, Rita Washington (Paul), Teresa Bassett (Jerome), and Grady Long, one brother; Elmer Fugate of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Rosie Fugate as well as her husband, Grady Long of Paris. She is also preceded in death by 3 brothers; Jessie, James, and Robert Fugate, 3 sisters; Mable Mitchell, Lillian Tender, Virgie Batsell, and Lily Greene, one grandchild; Derrick Berry and 3 great-grandchildren. She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Velma Long attended Johnson Temple under the leadership of J.L. Johnson and Laura B. Caldweld. She later became a member of the Faithwalk Ministries, under the leadership of her son, Bishop Harold G. Long. She was a member of both ministries for over 50 years.
Velma was a very happy person who loved serving God. She was an excellent pie maker and a big supporter of the church. She loved the Lord and loved His people. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Faithwalk Ministries in Paris, MO. Visitation will be from 10 until time of service on Saturday at the church.
