U.S. Veteran

Steven (Steve) K. Records, Oswego, Kansas, the son of (Mary) Margaret (Wallace) and George W. Records was born August 15, 1954 at his parent’s home in Newton County, Missouri; and passed from this life in Monett, Missouri November 28, 2018, at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 13 days.

 

Steve grew up in Oswego, and was a 1972 graduate of Oswego High School.  He excelled in sports and was a star player for the high school football and basketball teams.

 

Steve married Susan (Herridge) Bringle in 1972.  To this union one beautiful daughter, Shelley (Records) Weidinger was born.  He later married Tamra (Freoendall) Zerblis in 1987.  Their lives were blessed with a son, Ryan Matthew Records.

 

Steve was a paratrooper for the US Army, enlisting January of 1974.  He was stationed in both Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, until his honorable discharge in October 1975.  While serving his country, Steve achieved the rank of Private First Class and received the National Defense Service Medal, his Parachute, and M-16 Expert badges.

 

Steve moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1978.  He worked as an automobile sales associate and manager for twenty-five years.  He was a highly rewarded amployee of Davis Moore, Schoefield Brothers, and EZ Loan Auto Sales.  When Steve became disabled he moved home to Oswego, KS to be closer to his mother, sister, and brother-in-law. 

 

Steve loved sports of any flavor but especially loved football.  He was a devoted fan of the KC Royals, KU, and Wichita State University.  In his last years he became a devoted fan of the soap opera, “The Young and the Restless.”

 

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Georganna (Records) McDowell. 

He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter Shelley (Records) Weidinger and her husband Rob of Sachse, TX, one son Ryan Matthew Records of Wichita, Kansas, One brother David Records and wife Kelley of Bakersfield, CA, and one brother-in-law Gary McDowell, and his wife Beverly of Oswego, KS, 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, one niece, 4 nephews, and a host of family and friends.

 

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
