Rosemary's Obituary

Rosemary F. Paver, age 87, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2020. She was born August 15, 1932, in Aurora, Illinois, to Michael Lies and Barbara Besch Lies and was the youngest of 11 children. The Lies family lived in Naperville until Rosemary was seven months old at which time they moved to a farm at the corner of Blanchard and Naperville Roads in Wheaton. The farm was later torn down and is now the site of Danada Square. The family later moved to a house in town on Naperville Road across from the old Wheaton Courthouse and Jail complex. When she was growing up, she looked forward to Sundays when her married brothers and sisters would come home and bring their children for dinner.

Rosemary attended first grade at the Christie School located at the corner of Butterfield and Naperville Roads. There were four students that attended that year in various grades. The next year she attended St. Michael’s Catholic School in town where she completed grades 2 through 8. She attended Madonna High School in Aurora, riding the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad every day and walked from the train stop to Madonna. She graduated valedictorian of her class. Her business teacher placed her in her first office job at Aurora Savings and Loan.

She met her first husband, Robert Paver, at Prince Castle in downtown Wheaton where she worked. They were married in 1953 and raised five children in Wheaton, Illinois.

Rosemary was very involved with St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She not only attended school there as a child, but was also married to her husband, Robert, and raised their children in that parish.

Rosemary learned to play guitar with several of her friends. They became accomplished enough to play wedding masses as well as Sunday services at St. Michael’s. It was a source of great friendship and joy for her.

Camping became the family vacation, and they were joined by several other families who enjoyed traveling together. Some of their favorite spots were in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

Rosemary worked at Wheaton Central High School from 1972 until approximately 1986. She would spend half the day in the Dean’s office assisting with a special student program and in the nurse’s office as a secretary the other half.

Rosemary enjoyed ballroom dancing, golfing, bowling, playing cards (especially bridge) and other various board games. After retirement, she began painting and creating pottery. She was vibrant in all she did and enjoyed having a good time.

After Rosemary’s first husband, Robert Paver, passed away in 1978, she met and married Charles Becker, a man who shared her enthusiasm for golf and dancing. Shortly after retirement, they moved to Desert Hot Springs, California. However, the earthquakes chased them inland where they put down roots in Sun City West, Arizona. Charlie became ill and passed away in 1996, but Rosemary remained in Sun City West having made some wonderful friendships. It had become her home, and she was her happiest while living there.

While in Arizona, she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and became a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith was a great source of strength to her. She spent time at Sky Harbor International Airport as a volunteer in the Navigator Program, assisting travelers in negotiating the airport facility.

She married one additional time to Clay Panter who swept her off her feet. The two enjoyed cooking and traveling together. Clay passed away in 2010. Rosemary remained in Sun City West until 2012 when she returned to the Wheaton area and began a new chapter in her life at Wyndemere Senior Living Community, where she remained until her death.

She is survived by her five children: Linda (Timothy) Raymond of Elburn, Illinois; Steven (Cinthia) Paver of Warrenville, Illinois; Edward (Angela) Paver of LaPorte, Indiana; Cathy (Mark) Camp of Naperville, Illinois; and Karen (Gregory) Kuppler of Sarasota, Florida.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Raymond, Matthew (Krystal) Raymond, Jeffrey (Andrea) Raymond, Sara (Chris Jacob) Paver, Kristin Paver, Hailey (Andrew) Mankivsky, Brianne Paver (Perry Martin), Steven “Sam” Paver, Robert (Emily) Paver, Madison Paver, Kevin (Gretchen) Camp, Joseph Camp, Cory Camp (Bree Schiffer), Amanda (Corey) Ryan, Daniel Kuppler (Lexi Youngberg), and Michael Kuppler (Megan Bending), as well as her great grandchildren, Emery Raymond, Miles Raymond, Lillian Raymond, Peter Jacob, Harper Mankivsky, Logan Mankivsky, and Asher Ryan and step great grandchildren, Chloe Stevenson, Olivia Stevenson, and Kayden Michael Fix.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Lies, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Barbara Lies, husbands, Robert E. Paver, H. Charles Becker, and Clayton Panter, a grandchild, Steven R. Paver, and her ten brothers and sisters.

A private graveside service will be held at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield, Illinois, with a celebration of Rosemary’s life on a date in the future when Coronavirus restrictions allow. You can view the recorded graveside service down below.
