Robert James "Bob" Taylor, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 24, 2020 following a 6 month battle with liver cancer. He was well known around Fort George and loved to surf and spend time on the water. He was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida on June 8, 1954, son of the late Ralph William Taylor, Sr. and Joann Minton Taylor. In 1973, he graduated from Raines High School and was a member of the 1972 Gateway Conference Championship Football Team.
Bob began his career with Bell South, now A T & T and retired with 46 years on February 1, 2020. In 1993, Bob was presented the Bronze Vail Award for his actions in saving a customer's life.
Bob was instrumental in preserving the Jetties and worked tirelessly to protect surfing. He loved turtles and was up early every morning for years, looking for sea turtle nests. Many might not know Bob was involved in local politics, was a member of CPAC and ran for City Council and Union President and his goal was to make a difference. He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his son: Brandon (Cassie) Taylor; 1 grandson: Dylon Taylor; 2 sisters: Carol (Ray) Holliman and Cheryl Taylor; 1 brother: Billy (Barbara) Taylor and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Peeples Event Center, 14165 N. Main Street, with Rev. Bill Tyler, officiating. At his request, a paddle out at the Jetties will be scheduled.
