Rev. Fredrick William “Bro. Bill” Chapman went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 25, 1935. He was the son of Fredrick Walker Chapman and Elna Louise Allen Chapman. He graduated from Chattahoochee High School (Florida) where he lettered in both football and basketball. After being called to preach, he went to FSU and earned his BS Degree. He then married the love of his life, Peggy, on June 21, 1957. From there he went to New Orleans Theological Seminary, where he received his Masters of Divinity. In 1977, he was given an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Trinity Bible College. After graduation, he went to Pastor at Northwood Hills Baptist Church in Northport Alabama (59-63). He then went back to Florida where he was the pastor at North Palm Baptist Church (63-69) and then Northwest Baptist Church (69-78). In 1972, he was instrumental in starting Northwest Christian Academy. In 1978, he felt called into full-time evangelism. He and his family moved to Sylva, North Carolina and started the Bill Chapman Evangelistic Association. After 27 years in North Carolina, he took his ministry to Jacksonville, Florida where he has been for the last 16 years. He was also involved with The Caribbean Center for the Deaf in Mandeville, Jamaica for 40 years. His ministry ended the day he met his Savior.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Chapman; his three sons: Allen (Carla) Chapman, Mark (Jamie) Chapman and Scott (Leslie) Chapman; 7 grandchildren: Christyn (Chris), Matthew, Stephanie, Wesley, Natalie, Emily and Jack; 2 great grandchildren: Finlee and Audrey; 1 brother: Joe (Nancy) Chapman and 1 sister: Amanda “Tootie” Chapman. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Malmberg, officiating.
The family will start receiving friends at 4 PM. The service will start at 6 PM.
