Randall Eugene Parsons
Oswego, KS: Randall “Randy” Eugene Parsons, age 63 of Oswego, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital of Joplin, MO following an illness.
Randy was born on September 13, 1955 to the union of Teddie “Ted” G. Parsons and Neva N. (Smith) Parsons. Jocko graduated from Oswego High School with the class of 1973, and went on to play football at Pittsburg State University. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1975 and served active duty until 1978.
Randy’s only time away from Oswego was spent in the Marines, and a period of time that he worked as a coal miner in Oklahoma, but Oswego was his home for the majority of his life.
Randy worked as the Oswego City Superintendent, and later as a supervisor at Diamond Coach Corporation until 2009. He was a member of the Oswego First United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in West Mineral, KS.
Randy was united in marriage with Debra L. (Westervelt) Parsons on October 11, 1991 in Miami, OK. He was an avid outdoorsman to say the least. He spent many hours fishing in tournaments, river fishing, bass fishing, and “scouting” the pits looking for the next good spot to fish, often times with Deb at his side. He taught his daughter Talia how to fish, and often exaggerated the size of the fish that she caught just to make a good story. He also enjoyed bowhunting with his brother Lynn, and taking rides through the country with Deb. In everything Randy did, he was passionate about doing it to the best of his ability.
His survivors include his wife, Debra Parsons; his parents, Ted and Neva Parsons of Weir, KS; one daughter, Talia Stovall (husband, Josh) of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Cal Stovall, Mays Stovall, and Maris Stovall; one step-daughter, Tiffany Lopp of Columbus; Tiffany’s children, Kaitlynn Lopp and Dawson Beaty; one step-son, Kyle Correll (wife, Tabatha) of Twentynine Palms, CA; Kyle’s children, Brooklynn Correll and Adleigh Correll; two sisters, Cheryl Layne (husband, Mark) of Webb City, MO, and Toni Parsons of Oronogo, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lynn Parsons, who recently passed away in April of 2018.
Mr. Parsons was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego for cremation. The family will hold a gathering at the Oswego Community Center on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 1-3:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in West Mineral, and may be mailed to 106 Olive Street, West Mineral, KS 66782.
