KING, Mrs. Othelia-Age 69, of Flint, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, May 31, 2019 with a 10:30am family hour at West Carpenter Rd. Church of Christ, G-2296 W. Carpenter Rd., Flint, MI 48504. Brother Patrick McGovern, Jr. officiating. Calling hours are 1:00pm-6:00pm Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel, 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507. The final resting place for Mrs. King will be Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, Mt. Morris, MI.
Othelia Mae King (loving referred to as “Pete”) went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2019. She was the last of 12 children, born to a loving mother, who became Pete’s heart and breath. Her parents, Elizabeth King and James King gave birth to Pete in Louisburg, North Carolina on November 28, 1949. She graduated from Southwestern High School in 1968. At the encouragement of her father, she entered General Motors immediately after school, although her life long dream was to become a nurse. She retired in 1996 as an assembly worker. She was passionate about baseball and basketball. She was a fan of Judge Mathis, loved picnics and barbeques, taking long walks, phoning family, and going to the farmer’s market. She especially enjoyed going shopping at Menards with her great grandchildren.
Othelia King was survived by her daughters, D’Juna Sherrod and Tracy Sherrod; her grandchild Bryson, Sherrod; her great-grandchildren, Malachi Sherrod, Emir Sherrod, and Breyden Sherrod; her brothers, James King and Tom King; her sisters, Mary Shade and Lillie King.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Elizabeth King and James King; her four bothers, Doc King, Frank King, Lewis King, and Glenwood King; and her sister, Carolyn Sherrod. She was also preceded in death by her life companion, James Washington.
