U.S. Veteran

Mr. Lee Bain, age 81, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Crowne Healthcare in Mobile, AL.

Mr. Bain was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on Nov. 30, 1937.  As a young man, he proudly served his country as a flight medic in the U.S. Air Force.  After his service, Lee graduated from the University of Alabama with a Commercial Arts degree and then went on to receive a Master's degree in Art Education from Troy University.  Afterwards, he moved to Brewton upon receiving a grant provided from the National Endowment of Arts and the Alabama State Council of Arts and Humanities.

He became the first art teacher for T.R. Miller High School and in addition taught intermediate and junior college classes during his career.  As a true art enthusiast, his works included watercolors, silk screen prints, woodcuts, oils, etchings and paintings on handmade paper.  He generously shared his love for the arts with students, friends, and the community.  He initiated the first local arts festival in Brewton, provided public exhibits, and taught workshops to expose others to a variety of mediums.

In his spare time, Lee enjoyed spending time with family, traveling to Europe, playing golf and attending regional art shows.  He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Brewton and enjoyed singing in the choir.  Lee will always be fondly remembered for his humble nature, kind spirit and jubilant laugh.

Mr. Bain was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beth Parker Bain.  He is survived by one daughter, Leslie Haas, Fran Haas, and granddaughter Laney Haas.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Union Cemetery with Reverend Bobby Ellisor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Methodist Children's Home.
