Merle Courson Hurst, 72, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 surrounded by her family and fought a short brave battle with cancer.
Merle is a native of Jacksonville and daughter of the late Jim & Lula Courson. In 1967, she graduated Ribault High School and on September 7, 1968, she married the love of her life, Billy Hurst. Merle had a 30 year career with State Farm, and retired in 2011 as Office Manager at Ray Moore’s State Farm. She loved to decorate her home and entertain, spend time with her family and play cards. Being outdoors, at the beach or lake, was her happy place.
Preceding her in death are her parents, 1 sister, Gwen Leuders and 1 brother, Malcolm Courson.
Surviving family include her husband of 52 years, Billy A. Hurst; 2 daughters: Michell (Ronnie) Price and Billie Jo “B.J.” (Dwayne) Taylor; 8 grandchildren: Christa (Stefan) Price, Hannah Price, Rylan Price, Brittney (Jason) Nipper, Richard Whitehead, Ryan Whitehead, Wyatt Taylor and Virginia Taylor; 2 great grandchildren: Cristian and Gabriella and a host of friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Peeples Event Center, 14165 N. Main Street, with Chaplain Jackie Hayes, officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 1 hour prior to the service.
Her favorite color was purple and please honor Merle by wearing this color to her service.
