May Whitelaw Webster, 91, of West Chester, PA passed away November 19, 2018. May was born on May 16, 1927 in Fairfield, CT to the late Stephen Hughes and May McLelland Whitelaw.
Upon graduating from Bates College in 1949, May worked as an underwriter at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut. She and her husband Robert were married for 54 years, until his death in 2007. May was active in her children’s schools, working in the PTA, volunteering in the library, and attending all Great Valley football games and band cavalcades. For more than 30 years she was the very successful owner and manager of Wood’s Rubber Stamps, building up an impressive clientele and continuing to work into her early 70s. May was an avid bridge player, liked classic films and mystery novels, and enjoyed travel, especially to Disney World, which she and her family visited numerous times.
May is survived by her daughter Mariann Webster Smith, son Stephen Whitelaw Webster (Joann), and granddaughters Jessica Smith, Samantha Webster, and Stephanie Webster.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in May’s memory to Bates College.
