Robert Marvin Center, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was a native of Jacksonville, Florida and son of the late Edward Kenneth & Oddie Center. Graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1951, he also graduated from JU with an Associates in Arts degree. He married his sweetheart, Barbara Mintz on October 26, 1951 and was married 62 years.
He joined the USMC during the Korean Conflict and when he returned to Jacksonville, he began his career in the insurance industry at Gulf Life and retired from American Heritage Life Insurance Company. Marvin & Barbara were very active in the Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon in Jacksonville, Florida at Glen Hill Primitive Baptist Church and also served in Western North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister: Helon Nicolasora and 2 brothers: Dorman Center and Eugene Center.
Surviving family include 2 daughters: Susan (Bobby) Shoup and Karen (Bill) Moody; 5 grandchildren: Cheryl Shoup, Jason Shoup, Will (Dixie) Moody, Mary Ann (David) Loudermilk and John (Erin) Moody; 6 great grandchildren: Brayden, Hannah, Emily, Benjamin, Abby and Deanna; 2 sisters: Arielle (Fred) Smith and Thelma (Chuck) Wate; 1 brother-in-law: Tom (Iris) Mintz and a number of nieces, nephews and church family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Peeples Family Funeral Home, 14165 N. Main Street with Elder Arnold Johns, Brother Ted Crews and Will Moody, officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
