In April 2020, Karen R. Taatjes passed away at age 83.
Karen and her twin sister Karol were born on February 11, 1937 to Elbert and Palma Roberts in Granite City, Illinois.
Karen met Clark F. Butts at the University of Illinois at Champagne and they married in January 1958.
After raising three children, Karen went back to college and received a BS. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from Long Beach University.
Karen worked as an educator for several years teaching children how to relax and breathe during episodes of asthma and substitute teaching.
After Clark’s retirement in 1998, they moved to Vandenberg Village in Lompoc, CA. Karen enjoyed living on the 9th hole and golfing weekly.
After Clark passed away in 2008, Karen attended Trinity Church of Nazarene. At church, Karen met Elroy Taatjes, whom she married in April 2013. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed bowling, traveling, and reading.
Karen was preceded in death by her twin sister, Karol, and her first husband, Clark Forest Butts.
Karen is survived by her second husband, Elroy Taatjes, her three children Cynthia (Randy) Evans, Douglas (Noriko) Clark, and Melinda (Dave) Legg, four living grandchildren, and four living great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will not be scheduled due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Joyce Meyer Ministries in her name.
