John David Kelley, age 67, passed away at his home in Scammon Kansas surrounded by family at 5:53pm Sunday, October 28, 2018.
John was known through his childhood and school years as “Dave” or “David” and his adult life as John. John was born in Columbus, Kansas to Virgil and Anna Mae (Lakey) Kelley on August 28, 1951. He attended schools in Sherwin, Hallowell, Riverton and Columbus. Later on he completed a Two Year Certificate in Electrical Technology from Pittsburg State University and received other certifications.
Over the years John worked at various places including oil fields in Arkansas and a meat packing plant in Montana, and locally at Kretchmar, Castle Gate, Vinylplex and PowerFlame in Parsons where he was Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 2017. He has also owned and ran the car washes in Scammon and Weir Kansas for many years.
John married Phyllis Ann LaDuke on December 23, 2006. She survives of the home. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Baxter Springs where he helped serve with the sound system and in other ways.
John was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Anna Kelley, an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth, and oldest sister Virginia Sharon Montee.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, son Chad David Kelley (Deena) of Paxico Kansas, stepson Dustin LaDuke (Kristen) of Katie, OK, stepdaughters Delvia Getman (Rickey) of Stratford, OK, and Darla Burlingame (Shawn) of Dry Prong, LA, brother George Kelley (Becky) of rural Joplin, MO, sisters Judy Richardson (Ralph) of rural Columbus, Ruth Christofferson (Dale) of Kimberling City, MO, Beulah Marvin (Roger) of Springdale, AR and Rhea Applegate (Doug) of Bella Vista, AR, grandchildren Reagan Inez Josephine Kelley and Bryce David Kelley, step-grandchildren Skylar and Jaedyn Getman, Bryan Young, and Lexi Burlingame and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are through Derfelt Funeral Home of Baxter Springs and will be at the First Assembly of God Church, 1245 Park Ave. Baxter Springs KS on Wednesday, October 31, Pastor Daniel Berryhill officiating, with visitation at 1pm and funeral at 2pm. Pallbearers will be Corey Richardson, Joe Richardson, Reagan Kelley, Bryce Kelley, Chad Kelley, Rickey Getman with George Kelley as Honorary Pallbearer. John had requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to First Assembly of God Church in Baxter Springs KS.
