Ila Mae Warnke, 92, of Wessington Springs passed away Monday evening June 22nd at the Weskota Manor Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be held Saturday June 27th at 11:00 AM at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday June 26th from 5-7 at the Basham Funeral Home.
IIa was born on September 7th 1927 to Lewis and Zida Thompson in Wessington Springs SD. She attended country school and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. On November 24th 1946 she was united in marriage to Jack J Warnke in Wessington Springs and to this union 3 daughters were born.
IIa and Jack made their living for many years farming and raising cattle. IIa also worked for a few years while still helping out on the farm at Bob Patton Grocery store. IIa was an active member of the American Legion, Harmony Friends Ladies Aide, and Templeton Church. She volunteered at the Library and the Museum.
IIa and Jack enjoyed working on the farm together, loved to dance, playing cards with neighbors and friends. Also enjoyed reading. Enjoyed going to their kids and grandkids activities thru out the years.
Her pride and joy were her kids and grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her three daughters Deanna (Erik) Edberg of Hartford, SD, Linda (Tom) Grohs of Wessington Springs SD, Jackie (John) Edberg of Hartford SD; 9 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters Alma Mohling and Abbie Younie both of Wessington Springs and many close relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack on February 3, 2003; sister Betty Burchfield/ Castle from Oregon; 2 brothers Lauren Thompson and Tom Thompson both of Wessington Springs.
