June 30, 1930 - March 13, 2018
George Wilfred Hartmann of East Harwich Ma passed away peacefully on March 13th 2018. He was the beloved husband of Thelma G. Hartmann.
George was born in Dunellen N.J on June 30th 1930 to Clara L. (Keeson) Hartmann and George Hartmann. After he completed his education in N.J. He went to work at States Marine Line in N.Y.C in the mailroom. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Air force during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan. While there he worked in the U.S. Embassy, climbed Mt. Fujiyama twice and taught English to the Japanese school children. He was honorably discharged 4 years later as a Master Sargent First Class. He returned to N.Y.C to begin his long, well respected career in the shipping industry. Eventually retiring as Vice President of Reomar Shipping.
In 1957 he met and married Thelma who was in N.Y.C from England as a working exchange R.N. They had 2 children, Deborah and David. In 1970 George moved the family to Fairfield Ct. and resided there until his retirement in 1992. As they honeymooned on the Cape it was only fitting that they make East Harwich their permanent home.
George attended Cape Cod Covenant Church. He was an avid vegetable gardener known for his tomatoes that he would generously share. Stamp collecting and photography were favorite pastimes of his.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Thelma. Daughter Debbie (Jack) Reid. Son David (Joni) Hartmann. Five adored grandchildren, Matthew, Griffin and Andy Reid. Elizabeth and Christopher Hartmann.

Services will be held Mon March 19th at the Morris, O'Connor & Blute funeral home 678 Main Street Harwich Center. Visitation from 10a-11a with service at 11am. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne Ma.
