Frederick Oliver Grimsley, Sr., 99, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 in a local hospital.
Mr. Grimsley was born in Lyons, Georgia and lived in the Gainesville and Jacksonville areas most of his life. He would have celebrated his 100th Birthday on July 31st. He was son to the late Jesse Lee Grimsley and Susie McDilda Grimsley. He was a Veteran of the US Coast Guard serving as a Machinist’s Mate, 1st Class. He retired from the Duval County School Board where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor.
Mr. Grimsley was a Baptist and formerly a member of Main Street Baptist & North Jacksonville Baptist Church before moving his membership to Lake Forest Baptist Church in Gainesville. He was a Master Mason and member of the Barnett Lodge #187 F&AM, York Rite, Morocco Temple and Shriner where he served on the Legion of Honor.
Mr. Grimsley was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Lillian Townsend, Georgia Boree and Janet Simpson and a brother: Jack Grimsley. He is survived by his wife of 75 years: Frances Shaw Grimsley; 3 children: Barbara Peterson (Danny), Debra Pulliam (Randy) and Frederick Oliver Grimsley, Jr. (Renee L.); 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Rev. Tim McDaniel officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to the Shriners Hospitals in his memory.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there is limited space available for the service at the cemetery and will be attended by family only.
