Frederick S. Crown, Jr., born Jan. 18, 1949, native of Mobile and long-time Nashvillian, died on April 29 after a long battle with cancer.
Fred attended University Military School in Mobile and was valedictorian of the class of 1967. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from the University of Alabama in 1971. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He began a long career in banking and investment management at Merchant’s National Bank in Mobile, and in 1982, moved to Nashville after accepting a position at Lee, Robinson & Steine, Inc. In 1988, he was promoted to President and elected to the Board of Directors. The firm later became a part of AmSouth Bank (Regions), where he remained until retirement.
Fred served as a board member with the University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences, an elder and Sunday school teacher at Westminster Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the church’s many outreach programs including Habitat for Humanity, Westminster’s Home Connection, and Room in the Inn.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frederick S. and Molly Inge Crown. Survived by wife Ann Crown, son Benjamin Crown (Tim), daughter Rebecca Lang (Josh), sister Molly Nordmann (Rudy), two stepdaughters Gretchen Allen (David) and Sybil Toney (Craig), and grandchildren Killian, Bryce, Kellan, Carson, and Chloei.
In light of the difficult health crisis facing society, a celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westminster Home Connection, Conquer Cancer – The ASCO Foundation, or University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences.
