Melanson, Francis Joseph, Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Francis Joseph Melanson, Sr., age 88, Wednesday morning (March 14th, 2018). Frank was a husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of 61 years. Frank leaves behind his eight children along with their spouses / partners: Frank Melanson Jr. of Canton, MA, Paul Melanson and Chris Rowe of Taneytown, MD, Rick and Kathleen Melanson of Blackstone, MA, Mary and John Murphy of Franklin, MA, Mark and Susan Melanson of Chelmsford, MA, David Melanson of Virginia Beach, VA, Cynthia Melanson of Canton, MA, and Greg Melanson and Josefa da Silva Carvalho of Canton, MA. Frank was predeceased by his son Stephen, who tragically died days after his birth. Frank also leaves behind many grandchildren: Rick Jr., Christopher and Emily Melanson, Gunther, Jack and Ben Murphy, Daniel and Stephen Melanson, David Melanson Jr., and Eudinne Carvalho Sousa. Frank has two surviving siblings, Harold and William Melanson, and was predeceased by five of his other siblings, Pauline Donnelly, Jean Landham, Leonard, Donald and Richard Melanson. Frank also has numerous nephews and nieces.
Frank was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War having served aboard the USS Helena (CA-75) and the USS Kearsarge (CV-33). Frank was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham, MA where he grew up, and a college graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Frank and Janet lived for many years in Watertown, MA where they raised their family before retiring and relocating to South Yarmouth, MA. Frank worked for many years as an Electrical Engineer / Engineering manager, predominantly for Analog Devices, Inc. Frank was an avid golfer in his retirement and was very involved in the Retired Men’s Club and Saint Pius X Church, both in South Yarmouth, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 19th from 4-7 pm at the Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Dr., South Yarmouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 20th at 11am at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave South Yarmouth.
