Flemma O. Unterbrink, 87 of Madison, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Monroe Manor Nursing Home
She was born on December 10, 1930 in Woodlawn, the daughter of James Melvin and Alva Irene Delaney Harrison. She graduated from Shelbina High School in 1948 and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in St. Louis. After graduating from nursing school worked as a Registered Nurse in Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL. Flemma married Elmer C. Unterbrink on August 8, 1952 in Dorsey, IL and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2000.
She is survived by four children; Annette (Bob) Foreman of Madison, Charles (Pam) Unterbrink of Madison, Barbara (Doug) Tigges of St. Paul, MN and Paul (Sandy) Unterbrink of Madison; two sisters, Kathryn Slaton of Clarence and Martha
West of Omaha, NE; one brother, Elton Morgan of Paris; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Green, Mary Slaton and Grace Knipmeyer and one brother, Poole Harrison.
Flemma and her husband farmed north of Madison since 1959. She loved being on the farm. She, also, was a Red Cross volunteer, which included administering all the school vaccinations and working the blood mobiles. Flemma was the designated community nursing consultant.
She enjoyed many things in life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following their school and sports events. Flemma did not believe in sitting idle, she instilled the love of being industrious. Teaching her children and grandchildren how to quilt, cross stitch, make Christmas stockings and cut silhouettes were her favorite activities. Flemma thoroughly loved teaching her grandchildren to play the organ and piano.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and an active 4-H Leader.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1075 E. Urbandale Dr., Moberly, MO, with Pastor Eldon Kohn officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison.
