Mother Elizabeth Albert of Flint, Michigan

January 10, 1931 - May 20, 2019

ALBERT, Mother Elizabeth-age 88, of Flint, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at her residence.  Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, June 7, 2019 with a 10:30am family hour at Greater Holy Temple COGIC 6702 Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48505.  Bishop Roger L. Jones officiating.  Calling hours are 1:00pm - 6:00pm Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.  The final resting place for Mrs. Albert will be Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, Burton, MI. 

Mother Elizabeth Albert was born January 10, 1931 in Camden, Arkansas the oldest daughter of Leola and Elder Otis Furlow, Sr. She attended Union Grove High School. At the age of 20 she was united in matrimony to Cornelius Albert. Where they later moved to Flint, Michigan to seek employment. Elizabeth resided on East Kurtz Avenue for over 64 years.

Elizabeth was a faithful member of Greater Holy Temple Church of God In Christ for 49 years where she served on the Senior Usher Board. She was once director of the Kitchen Committee and with the assistance of Charlean Price she was instrumental in establishing The GHT Food Pantry which is presently operating strong. Elizabeth had the pleasure of being not only a homemaker but worked at Harrow Elementary School, Director of the Candy’s Day Care Center all in the Beecher area. She was a cook and server at Mott Community College. Her hobbies and passions included fishing, gardening, poetry, cooking and having family gatherings. Speaking of Day Care, Elizabeth cared for many of her grandchildren and a majority of her nieces and nephews. She was the Queen of the Village and was the local babysitter to many of the children in the Kurtz Street community. Many who knew Elizabeth looked forward to going to Aunt Beth’s home. Where she was known for her “Mountain Dew” cakes. Aunt Beth was a great cook.

Mother Albert leaves to cherish sweet memories 1 son and 3 daughters, Dennis Edward (Inez) Albert; Betty Brown, Debra Johnson and Brenda Albert, all of Flint; 15 grandchildren, Calvin, Jr. Darnell, Tasha, Taneesha, Crystal, Joseph, Tremaine, Sylvester, Jr., La’Toya, Antonio, LaTasha, Iesia, Demarcus, Derrick and Tawana; 38 Great grandchildren; 1 brother, Otis Furlow, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; 5 sisters, Louise Hooker of Kansas City, MO, Rosetta Brown of Sacramento, CA, Lillie Gentry of Humble, TX, Mary Hunter of Swartz Creek, MI and Susie Pass of Milwaukee, WI; Aunts Ivory Dee Albert of Cleveland, OH and Ester Mae Manley of Cleveland, OH; 24 nephews, 20 nieces; a host of other relatives and friends including God son Lionel Verdun, Mother Margaret Williams, the Mother’s Board, Curtis Fields, Tracie and Sherman Pollard, Lynette Haynes, Regina Sargent, the Wells Family; Greater Holy Temple Church Family and the GHT Outreach Center and surrounding neighbors.

Mother Albert was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Albert, parents Leola and Otis Furlow, Sr., brothers Lee Otis, James and Joe Lee Furlow; sister, Eddie McGuire and her sons, Sylvester, Sr. and Irving Albert; her granddaughter, Charise Munerlyn and special nephews, Xavier Dean and Doug Williams, Jr.; niece, Virginia Hayes, and son in law, Calvin Munerlyn.
