Mr. Derrick Terrell "Rel" Towns was born February 28, 1981 at Hurley Medical Center, the son of Saberial Shumpert-Towns and Derrick McKinney Towns.  He was a spectacular beloved son, loving brother, a very proud father and uncle, whom wore a smile that would melt your heart.  In his earlier years, he attended Garfield Elementary, Whittier Middle School and Flint School of Choice.  He always had a way of making you smile, no matter what the circumstances.  He had a serious and humorous soul.  He was always uplifting others spirits, never considering himself a victim of his own illness.  He  was very charismatic and a great charmer.  He also, loved to keep up with the latest clothes and fashions.

Mr. Derrick Towns loved spending time with family, especially his mom and children.  He enjoyed cooking, reading, graphic arts, playing cards, and chess.  He was very fond of Rap Music and was great at rapping himself.  The "best times" he enjoyed was when him, his dad and his brother could go fishing and camping out together.  He always spent quality time teaching, playing, laughing, and encouraging his children, nieces, nephews and all of the younger generation he encountered to be their best.  He was an inspiration for them, to achieve their future goals successfully.  He was an exceptional role model for them to remember and follow forever.

Mr. Derrick Terrell (Rel) Towns leaves to cherish his loving memory: Mother, Saberial (Shumpert) Towns; Father, Derrick McKinneley Towns; his loving and handsome son, Derrick Terrell Towns Jr.; beautiful and adorable daughters, Terrea Thomas and Teleaya Towns; brother, Tierre Towns; nieces, Terionna and Miyaire Towns; nephews, Tierre and Tionne Towns; aunts, Marquita (James) Olgatree of Decatur, GA, Denise (Bryan) Parker of Rosewell, TX, Carol Towns of Flint, MI, Gwen Towns of Atlanta, GA, Nivea and Marlana Southward, Bertha Shumpert, Debra Watkins, Lerwonia Summers, Sayvil (Chris) Crain and Elitha Shumpert all of Flint, MI; uncles, Dwayne, Dennis and Nathaniel Towns all of Flint, MI, and Dennis Barker of IN; great-aunt, Lorraine Graham of Flint, MI; great-uncles, Lodie (Gloria) Fair of Milwaukee, WI and Juliet Fair of Richmond, California;  a host of friends including special friends, Erwin Thomas, Katara Ward, Keoshee Flynn, Rodney Hairston, and Robert Steele Jr.
