David “Donnie” E. Solly, 73 years of age, husband of Shirley S. Solly, lost his battle with cancer and passed away Friday, September 18, 2020, at his home in Harrisburg, Texas. Born April 3, 1947, in Hemphill, Texas, he was the son of the late Hollis Elray and Julie Othell Solly.
David graduated from Jasper High School in 1965, and then in 1970 became a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America where he was eventually elected as Business Manager and served for 30 years, until he retired in 2000. 2020 marked 50 years as a member.
He is survived by son, Shannon & his wife Rachel of Tyler, Texas and daughters, Angela Bollinger & her husband Jamie of Frisco, Texas and Lindsey Jacks & her husband Daniel of Avalon, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Reuben, Esther, Eva, Phoebe, Iris, Levi, and Fiona of Tyler, Brooke, Blake, and Breslin of Frisco, and Paige and Evan of Avalon. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Warner & her husband James of College Station, Texas and Faye Buteaud & her husband Brooks of Harrisburg, Texas; and by 2 nieces and their children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Billy Ray, sister Gaynell, and his grandson Brant.
Family, friends, and others whose lives David touched are invited to the Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home, Hwy 96 North in Jasper, Texas starting at 1:00pm, Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Yellowpine Cemetery.
