Claude H. Trucks, Sr., 101, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 23, 1919 in Pinson, Alabama to the late Frank and Katherine “Kate” Rotton Trucks.
Claude served in WW II Infantry Division under General Patton and received 2 Purple Hearts. After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Harton in November 1945. Claude worked as an optician for many years, working first for Abernathy-Fisher and then opening his own business in 1959, Claude Trucks Opticians in the Riverside area of Jacksonville. He retired in 1989 after 30 years. Claude enjoyed fishing and his yard was his pride & joy.
He took care of Carolyn for 10 years as she suffered from dementia and he was awarded the 1st “Caregiver of the Year” from the Alzheimer’s Association, receiving this award in New York City.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Trucks; his son, Butch Trucks; granddaughter, Jessica Trucks; and 5 siblings.
Surviving family include 2 children: Cathy (Will) Hussey and Chris (Debbie) Trucks; daughter-in-law: Melinda Trucks; 10 grandchildren: Kimberly (Marty) Terry, Korey (Veronica) Lipsey, Derek (Susan) Trucks, David (Erica) Trucks, Duane (Cameron) Trucks, Lindsey (Cody) Trucks, Vaylor (Emilee) Trucks, Melody (Scott) Dugger, Elise Trucks and Seth Trucks; 16 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Austin, Mason, Kaleb, Kaleigh, Kasey, Kara Lynn, Charlie, Sophia, Andrew, Hudson, Astrid, Thomas, Elizabeth, Kayla and Julian; 1 great-great granddaughter: Savannah; 1 sister: Clyde Vanhook and a host a nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Chris A. Coram, officiating.
