Carl J. Klinzman
Columbus, KS: Carl J. “Junior” Klinzman, age 84 of Columbus, passed away at his home at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 11, 2019 in Columbus after a battle with cancer.
Carl was born in Agra, KS to the union of Carl Klinzman, Sr. and Florence (Gheen) Klinzman. He attended Agra High School until he enlisted in the US Army.
After his time in the army, Carl worked on bridge construction projects throughout the State of Kansas. He retired in January of 2015 as a Bridge Supervisor with Mission Construction in St. Paul, KS. He had resided in Columbus for 25 years, where he was a lifetime member of the Columbus VFW Post 1372. He collected guns, and was an avid hunter, making several trips to locations like New Mexico, Colorado, and Alberta, Canada. He enjoyed watching football, especially the New England Patriots.
Carl was united in marriage with Phyllis (Ott) Klinzman on June 17, 1957. She preceded him in death in 2001. He was later united in marriage with Linda Lee (Kinney) Klinzman on September 6, 2005 in Del Norte, CO. She survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Nita (husband, Marvin), Lenette (husband, Gaylen), LeeAnn (husband, Henry), and Johna (husband, Christian); one sister, Iola Pasquale (husband, Pete) of the State of Florida; his grandchildren, Randall Varnell (wife, Tara), Jeremy Varnell, Levi Varnell (wife, Sarah), Keith Walker (wife, Emily), and Cody Walker (wife, Leslie); his great-grandchildren, Zaine, Callie, Trivett, Ayden, Jody, Livia, and Brady Varnell, and Hannah Walker; as well as Adriana Garcia who he took into his home to raise. His special friends who deserve mention are Dave McClure, Bob Gudgen, and the late Gerry Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl, Sr. and Florence; his first wife, Phyllis; one brother, Robert Klinzman; and one sister, Dorothy Vice.
Mr. Klinzman has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Homes for cremation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. Chaplain Jeff Owen will officiate.
