Martin Vernon "Buddy" Gardner, 68, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at his residence. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019, at 2:00pm from Lowndes Funeral Home, immediately followed by Funeral Services at 3:00pm from the Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Justin Wilcher and Sister Hazel Seichrist officiating. Burial will be at Living Faith Tabernacle Cemetery in Columbus.
Mr. Gardner was born March 07, 1951 in Scott County, MS, to the late John E. and Margaret T. Gardner. He joined the United States Air Force and had been stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Jacksonville, Arkansas, prior to making his home in Columbus, MS. He retired from the Air Force as a Senior Corrosion Control Specialist. Mr Gardner was a Christian by Faith and served as a Pastor for Word of Life Church. He deeply loved people, which was evident in his work with the ministry, where he enjoyed being able to share the love of Jesus with others. Always a jokester, his whit and humor will be deeply missed. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but more especially spending time with his family. A wonderful husband and loving father, he was proud of his role as "Paw Paw Buddy" to his grandchildren and even "Paw Paw Buggie" as he was affectionately called by some of his Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents; Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Richards; one brother Johnny Gardner; and one sister Peggy Ruth Clemons.
Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife of 49 years: Cathy Gardner; two sons: John Timothy (Lisa) Gardner of Beaverton, AL and Joey (Becky) Gardner of Caledonia; step mom Hester Gardner; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters: Brenda Gardner, Betty Clemons and Diane Johnston; and step siblings Jones and Rose.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: David Livingston, Trey Gardner, Bo Gardner, Triston Gardner, Sam Pounders and Sean Lytle. Recognized as Honorary Pallbearers with be: Terry Lewis, Marty Moss and Mr. Gardner's many Nephews.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the favorite charity of the Donor's Choice.
