Billy J. Vaught, 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in a local care center.
Mr. Vaught was born in Granite City, Illinois and was son to the late Homer Monroe Vaught and Ann Alberta Vaught. He was a graduate of Dexter High School in Dexter, MO and a Veteran of the US Navy. He retired from the City of Jacksonville after 30 years service. Mr. Vaught enjoyed golf, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He always enjoyed their yearly pilgrimage to watch the Cardinals spring training and watching the Jaguars and Gators.
Mr. Vaught is survived by his wife: Maria Vaught; 2 children: Dana Byers and Thomas Vaught; 2 step-children: Warren Kent Kegebein, Jr. (Athena Hillman) and Maria Merk (Harald); 2 sisters: Lavona Lunbeck (Raymond) and Cathy Williams (Brad); a brother: Danny Vaught (Mary); 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the Event Center at Peeples, 14165 N. Main Street (Building C) with Mr. Craig Carlson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
