GULLETTE, Mrs. Bessie-age 79, of Flint, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Thursday, June 20, 2019 with a 10:30am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507. Pastor Fletcher Johnson officiating. Calling hours are 1:00pm - 7:00pm Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel. The final resting place for Mrs. Gullette will be Christian Memorial Cemetery, Camden, AL.
Mrs. Bessie Mae Gullette was born January 18, 1940 in Camden, Alabama, the daughter of Elmo and Ethel Covington.
Mrs. Gullette was the mother of eight and worked as a sharecropper. She also worked as a Home Health Care Aide for several years. Mrs. Gullette was a longtime member of Gravel Creek Church in Alabama before joining First New Life Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. She was a Mother of First New Life Church who would do whatever she could, wherever she was needed to assist. She truly loved everyone and didn’t mind telling you. She would seal it with a “And there is nothing you can do about it.” Mother Bessie will truly be missed.
Mrs. Bessie Gullette leaves to cherish: 5 children, Mattie Covington, Bessie, Vesonie, Levelle, and David Gullette all of Flint, MI; 13 grandchildren, Sandra, Kaneka and Shonta Covington, Tony, Anthony, Levelle Jr., Versonie, Dorthey and Gabrielle Gullette, Michael Payne, Larry and Latrice Guerrero, all of Flint, MI and Latricha Ray of Atlanta, GA; 2 brothers, Elmo Jr. (Jimmy) Covington of AL and Prince (Annie-“Doll Baby”) Covington of Detroit, MI; sister, Estella (Pastor Monet) Dear of Camden, AL; 7 nephews, Derrick, Ricky and Chuck Johnson, Parrish, Davaugan and Michael Covington, and Reginal Thornton; 6 nieces, Patricia Cook, Melva Moos, Tracie Johnson, Catina and Penny Covington and Robin Thornton; several cousins; many friends including Marilyn Martin, Melissa Achey and Chinese Bonds.
Mrs. Bessie Gullette was preceded in death by: husband, Garrett “Gee” Gullette; sons, Michael Gullette and Larry Covington; daughter, Bertha Gullette; parents, Elmo and Ethel Covington; brother, Albert Covington; grandfather, Jack Johnson; grandmother, Mattie Bell Jackson.
