Arthur “Doc” Norman Griswold, 80, of Paris, greeted his son, Mike, at the Gates of Heaven on November 24, 2018.

Art was born on October 15, 1938 to Norman “Mose” and Doris Mullen Griswold in Plymouth, IL. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1956.  On August 24, 1958 he became partners with Joyce Keith, in Wellsville, MO at the Christian Church.  They celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 24, 2018.

He attended the University of Missouri Veterinary Medicine and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1964 After graduation in 1964, he went to Corydon, Iowa, where he worked in the Corydon Veterinary Clinic.  He was there for 4 ½ years.  In 1969, he moved to Paris, MO, where he opened Paris Veterinary Clinic.  He was joined in the clinic by Dr. “Mac” Wilt in 1979 and in 1995 “Mac” became owner and is still there working hard.

Art and Joyce became parents to Michael Norman on December 12, 1962 in Columbia, MO. Suzanne joined her brother on January 10, 1965 in Corydon, Iowa, where a strong bond to her brother was formed.

Art is survived by his wife, Joyce Griswold, of the home in Paris; one daughter, Suzanne Cheatham of Lake Ozark; one daughter-in-law, Marcia “Marcy” Griswold of Centralia; grandchildren, Zachary Griswold and his wife Sydney, of Harrison, Arkansas, Nicholas Griswold and his wife Jennifer of Columbia, Robert Griswold of Centralia and Shelby Griswold of Brooklyn, New York and Alex and Zowie Cheatham, of Lake Ozark;  Great-Grandchildren, Emery Griswold of Columbia and Adalynn Griswold of Harrison, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Griswold on August 12, 2018.

Over the course of his life in Paris, Art served as a member of the Paris R-II School Board; having served as President, member of the First Christian Church of Paris, lifetime member of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, member of the Northeast Veterinary Medical Association and a charter member of the S.O.B. Club.

Celebration of Life will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at Agnew Funeral Home.
