A Celebration of Albert “Rayburn” Pickering, Sr.’s Life, age 81 of Jasper, Texas, will be 2:00pm on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper, Texas with burial following at Weeks Chapel Cemetery in Newton County, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00pm, Friday, September 18, 2020 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.
A native of DeQuincy, Louisiana and lifelong resident of Jasper, Rayburn was a minister for over 40 years, serving several churches in the Jasper area including Weeks Chapel, Bishop Chapel, Spring Hill and Quick Sand. He also was a dozer operator in the Jasper area for many years.
Rayburn is survived by his wife Nancy Pickering of Jasper, Texas; sons, Albert Pickering, Jr & wife Melba, Rodney Pickering & wife Becky, and Keith Pickering, all of Jasper, Texas; daughter, Sandra Melancon & husband Randy of Sulphur, Louisiana; brother, Lee Pickering & wife Linda of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters Mary Pierce and Patricia Gore, both of DeQuincy, Louisiana; grandchildren, James Pickering, Jennifer Bronson, Brandi Schroer, Paul Pickering, Luke Pickering, Coley Persons, Shelby Pickering and Maddye Pickering; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond D. and Elouise Pickering; brothers, Ross Pickering and Elton Pickering; sister Diane Clifton and grandson Skylar Shae Persons.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bishop Chapel Baptist Church, 5082 Hwy 63 East, Jasper, Texas 75951.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
