James W. Milas, 73, of Hershey, PA, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on September 2, 2020 while enjoying a family vacation in Deep Creek Lake, MD.
Jim was born on October 11, 1946 in McKeesport, PA, son of Anna (Kojundzic) Milas and the late Anthony W. Milas.
Mr. Milas graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1968, served in the Coast Guard until 1979, and then worked for the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command in Washington, DC until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey and played in local senior golf leagues. Jim enjoyed supporting the Hershey Bears, the Harrisburg Senators, and his continual favorite Pittsburgh teams, the Pirates and Steelers. Above all¸ he cherished spending time with his family.
In addition to his 101-year-old mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn (Coe) Milas with whom he had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by their children: Gregory (fiancé, Lacy Baugher), Alexandria, VA; Teresa Milas Morrison (Andrew), Reston, VA; and Mark, Hershey; as well as a daughter from a previous marriage, Maura Derstein (Marc), Telford, PA. Also surviving are his granddaughter, Ainsley Morrison; brothers Eugene (Carole), McMurray, PA; and Leonard (Lenna), Bethel Park, PA; uncle Michael Kojundzic (Betty), Brooksville, FL; aunt Norma Milas, New Eagle, PA; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held at the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Route 422 & Lucy Ave., Hershey, PA 17033 on Thursday, September 10, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1:00 PM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033. The mass will be live-streamed via the parish’s website www.stjoanhershey.org and their social media. Interment will immediately follow at Hershey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Joan of Arc at the above address or to the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department, 21 W. Caracas Ave., Hershey, PA 17033, www.hersheyfire.org.
