May 18, 1941 - April 06, 2014
Arthur Korinek, 73, of Oswego, KS passed away at 9:07pm Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Freeman Hospital.
He was born May 18, 1941 in Ellsworth, KS to Charles and Lillian (Kroboth) Korinek. During and after high school he pursued his love of farming in Abilene, Kansas. It was in Abilene that he met his wife, Nancy (Wilson) Korinek.
Art and Nancy moved their family to Oswego, KS in 1973 where they purchased a farm and started a sawmill. He and his brother Arnold owned and operated Korinek Brother’s Sawmill until their retirement in Fall of 2012.
Art enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He was a tenacious worker, and spent much time fixing equipment and chainsaws that would have exasperated most. He taught his daughters to be self-sufficient, making sure they knew how to be strong, independent people.
Survivors include his wife Nancy, his daughters Krystal Willhite (Brian) of Scammon and Karen Beetch (Kevin) of Newton. His beloved grandchildren will miss him dearly; Kassidy, Joel and Zeke Thompson and Rachel Willhite. His brothers are Arnold Korinek of Oswego and Eldon Korinek (Pam) of Ft. Scott. His nieces and nephews are Andrew (Susan) Korinek and Wendy (John) Saldivar, Laurel Wilson and Yolene Wilson.
Visitation will be Wednesday April 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego, KS. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm at the Oswego Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Oswego Commercial Bank to benefit Cal Farley Boys Ranch and the Oswego Library tree fund.
