Stella M. Kingsbury – 86, a long time resident of Waterbury passed away peacefully in the comfort of her family at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Born in Duxbury on March 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nina (Bissonette) Lamson. On September 21, 1945 she married Lawrence M. Kingsbury in Portsmouth NH.
Stella attended schools in Danville and Burlington. As a young woman she trained and then was employed by New England Telephone as an operator in Portsmouth NH. Moving to Waterbury in 1947, she continued as an operator for New England Telephone before accepting the position as switchboard operator at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury from which she retired in 1983. In her leisure time Stella was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed bowling, spending time on the ocean in York ME, and dancing. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury.
Stella is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Kingsbury of Woodridge Nursing Home; two sons, Larry Kingsbury and his wife, Barbara of Brentwood NH, and Louie Kingsbury and his wife, Denise of Barre Town; 3 grandchildren, Elisa Perry of Fremont NH, Adam Kingsbury of Barre, and Valerie Carzello of South Burlington; 3 great-grandchildren, Richard Joseph Croteau, Damien Kingsbury, and Aaliyah Kingsbury; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Stella was predeceased by 2 brothers, Clarence Lamson and Harold Lamson, and 3 sisters, Irene Sly, Hazel LaVanway and Ethel Lamson.
Memorial services will be held from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury on Tuesday, January 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Later inurnment will take place in the Vermont Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
