It all began on June 1, 1985.

Mortuary Associates was designed to provide autopsy assistance and morgue direction services on a contract basis to hospitals in the greater Nashville area. It is an effort that grew out of an idea that Chuck Crawford had while working at the General Hospital in the pathology department during his time in Mortuary College. We still provide these services to Nashville area hospitals today and they remain an important compliment to our Funeral business.

That same year, a funeral establishment license was applied for and granted (# 713) allowing Mortuary Associates of Nashville to operate as a full service funeral provider. The corporate objective was to offer embalming, transport, shipping, cremation, and burial services on a “trade” or wholesale basis to other funeral homes.

In 1995 Crawford Mortuary & Crematory moved into their facility at 2714 Grandview Avenue in Nashville. Renovations and updates were undertaken, and the mortuary unit began offering funeral services to the general public. In March of 1998, Mortuary Associates Inc. completed the purchase of the property and began a second renovation to include a crematory addition, furnishing and equipment upgrades and overall enhancement of the physical plant.

Expansion and Contraction

All business is an ever changing and evolving exercise. Since our beginning in 1985 we grew to operate four locations. The funeral business has changed dramatically in that time and the consumer’s wishes have evolved. We have strived to keep pace and maintain an efficiency that would allow us to continue to offer quality service to our community. The effort to keep pace has lead us expand our original location on Grandview Avenue to be complete with all of the equipment and capacity to provide you with the products and services that you will need. Our commitment to higher standards and quality assurance will help to ease your mind and comfort you with the knowledge that we can meet all of your needs.

Crawford Franklin Chapel

Licensed as a funeral establishment in April, 2004, this location was an experiment to marry the Event Business with the Funeral Business. This facility was complete with a chapel that had fixed pew seating, stained glass windows and could accommodate 175 people. Adjacent to the chapel is the 3,300 sq. ft. banquet hall which could be divided into two large visitation parlors, or arranged for a sit down dinner and celebration for 200 guests. Perfect for a champagne toast or to watch a memorial DVD tribute.
