Our Beginnings

The actual date of the beginning of the Fletcher Furniture and Undertaking Store is believed to be 1900 by Crocker Paul Fletcher. This was to be the first funeral home for Meade County.

In 1903, Ernest W. Fletcher came into the busines with his father and in 1905 became the first licensed embalmer in Meade County.

After the death of Crocker Paul Fletcher, Warren Fletcher joined Ernest in the funeral business and furniture store. In 1925, the two businesses were divided with Ernest keeping the funeral home and establishing it at the current site.

In 1937, Ernest Fletcher passed away and his wife, Lillie, and son, Crocker, continued to manage the funeral home.

On December 1, 1949, the Fletcher family sold the funeral home to Loyal and Vera Fidler. It was at this time the funeral home name became Fidler Mortuary and has remained a family operated business since.

In 1956, Loyal and Vera Fidler purchased the Thoman Funeral home of Fowler, Kansas.

As the busines continued to grow during the 1950's and 1960's, so did the four daughters of Loyal and Vera. They are, Evangeline (Banny), Judy, Susan, and Cindy.

In 1968, another change took place in the business. Royce G. Orme, husband of Evangeline (Banny) Fidler, completed his embalming and funeral director's training. He joined Loyal and Vera in the funeral business. At this time the name was changed to Fidler Mortuary, Inc. This corporation lasted until April 1, 1976. at which time Royce and Banny purchased the business and it became known as the Fidler-Orme Mortuary.

On July 1, 1999, Trevin Bachman, grandson of Loyal and Vera Fidler, joined Royce and Banny in the daily operation of the funeral home.

On July 31, 2004, Royce and Banny sold their interest in the funeal home to Trevin and Angela Bachman. This transition prompted the name change to Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary.

From our beginings in 1949, our family has taken great pride in being entrusted to care for the families of our community. We thank you for this trust.
