U.S. Veteran Eugene Clayton Reusser of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday, August 2, 2010, at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 88 years.

Eugene Clayton Reusser was born in La Junta, Colorado, on February 14, 1922. He was the son of Otto and Selma (Krehbiel) Reusser. As an infant his family moved to Drake, Canada, where he began kindergarten. They then moved to Moundridge, Kansas, where he attended first grade before moving with his family to Deer Creek, Oklahoma, where he attended second grade through high school graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1940. He then attended one year at the Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, before attending one year at Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. He then entered the United States Army where he served as a tech sergeant serving in World War II in the Pacific where he was a pharmacist. In 1946 he was discharged from the United States Army and moved back to Deer Creek where he married Norma Latschar on July 20, 1947, in Deer Creek settling in Deer Creek. He then furthered his education back at Bethel College where he received his Bachelor’s of Education. They moved to Fairfax, Oklahoma, where he began teaching and coaching. He later received his Master’s of Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. He taught and coached for twenty six years teaching also at Deer Creek, Oklahoma, Blackwell, Oklahoma, Pretty Prairie, Kansas, and Newton, Kansas. After his retirement they moved back to Deer Creek, where he continued his farming and in the fall of 1997 they moved to Blackwell. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell. Eugene loved coaching and the boys he coached, and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Norma Reusser of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three sons, Steve Reusser, and wife Susan of Middleton, Wisconsin, Ted Reusser and wife Susan, of Andover, Kansas, and Jim Reusser and wife Bobbye of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kevin Reusser and wife Kim of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Liz Black and husband Kevin of River Falls, Wisconsin, Ricky Reusser of Ames, Iowa, Erin Reusser of Wichita, Kansas, Clay Reusser of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Ben Reusser of Manhattan, Kansas; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Reusser of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Isaiah Black of River Falls, Wisconsin, and Micaiah Black of River Falls, Wisconsin; and two sisters, Maurine Kuehny of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Lois Krehbiel of Kenosha, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Ed Reusser; and one sister, Orvilla Dester.

Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, August 7, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at the Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek with Rev. Kristen L. Brown of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will be at the Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek.
