Emerson R. Able, Jr., 84, of Memphis, TN, retired educator-musician passed peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2015. Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 11 a.m. at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, 70 North Bellevue, Memphis, TN. The burial will be in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Family hour will be Wednesday, July 1 at Collins Chapel CME Church, 678 Washington Ave. from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Omega services will be held at 5 p.m. He was employed with the Memphis City Schools for 32 years as a band director. He served in the United States Army and played in the Army band. He was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and received a Musical Note on Beale Street. Emerson was a member of Collins Chapel CME Church. He is survived by his children, LaTanya Able, Antoinne Able (Pat), Emerson Able (Rosalind); brother, Whitman H. (Gwendolyn) Able and his granddaughter, Emerald Able.
