October 08, 1956 - March 01, 2015
GLENS FALLS -- Anthony Keith Jenkins, 58, passed suddenly Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born October 8, 1956 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of Marian Williams, residing in East Orange, NJ. He attended Orange High School and later college at Rutgers University.
Tony met his partner in life and creativity, Lisa Lashway Rowlands, 18 years ago and they have resided together in Moreau, NY.
In 1997 he moved to Glens Falls, NY and had worked at The Georgian Resort and later, as the Laundry Manager of the Quality Inn, Lake George, for the last 15 years.
He was also the Band Leader of the Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip and played in places such as Wallabees Jazz Bar, BarVino, and The Algonquin, in Bolton Landing, for many years. The Jazz Trip had been awarded the Post Star's "Best of the Region: Jazz Band" for 5 consecutive years. Wallabees stated “Tony was a jazz man in the truest sense of the term….a consummate professional, content to sit low in his chair and let his words flow through his incredible collection of guitars. He surrounded himself with talented musicians and talented musicians flocked to play by his side.” The sound of his music, his blissful presences, and passion will continue on through those who cherished his sound and spirit.
Tony kept busy; he was a student of Sensei Anthony DiSarro at Capital District Martial Arts Center from 2002-2006 and then a student of Sifu Steven Nacua at the Glens Falls Hop Gar Kung Fu Academy since 2006. In 2013 he became an instructor at the Salem Hop Gar Kung Fu Academy. Tony had a very special connection with each of his students and was honored to share his knowledge of the martial arts with them.
There will be no calling hours, however, A Jazz-Jam/Lion Dance Celebration of Life will be held in May.
Lisa extends special thanks for the outpouring of support and love to Tony’s Martial Arts Family, his Music Family, and his co-workers and wishes them to know that each and every person in his circle of friends and family have been highly influential in Tony having reached two important life-long goals, to be a great guitarist and a good martial artist.
In lieu of flowers Toni’s Kung Fu family has created a fundraiser page on Giveforward.com to help his family with final expenses. The fundraiser name: AnthonyJenkins.
