Joan E. Summers of Flushing, age 72, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at Brian's House in Davison. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Flushing, 5105 N. McKinley Road, Flushing. Rev. Kenneth Sharp will officiate. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of the service Saturday at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Flushing.
Joan was born in Mineola, New York on July 25, 1939, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Bailey) Potter. She married Gary Summers in Flushing on February 14, 1958. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1996.
Joan was a beautician and barber and had worked at the Mane Attraction and the Continental hair salons. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flushing.
Joan is survived by: three children, Gary, Jr. and wife Kim Summers of Otisville, Walker Summers of Flushing, Donna Walker and Robert Macciomei of Clio; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Allen and husband Harold LaForest of Burton, Mary and husband John Ward of Swartz Creek; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ocenasek, and a sister, Betty Boyd.
