Memorial services for Helen M. Buche, 87, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of East Moline. Committal services will be held at a later date. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Mrs. Buche died February 4, 2011 at her home. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
Helen was born March 18, 1923 to Katie Irene (Croft) and Albert Sole at their farm home southeast of Earlham, IA in a middle of a blizzard. In 1940, she graduated from Earlham High School. She was an AIB alumnus and worked as a secretary in Des Moines. Helen married James Buche of Madrid, IA on September 3, 1944 at Earlham Presbyterian Church. While in Des Moines she put James through several years at Drake University.
In 1959, she moved to Waterloo, IA, and was active at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Deacon and Sunday School), Northeast Iowa Citizen Band Radio Club Emergency Squad, Red Cross First Aid Instructor and Heart Association CPR Instructor (one student saved her husband's life). She was Civil Defense Operations Officer of Blackhawk County.
In 1974, Helen moved to East Moline, IL and was active in the First Presbyterian Church of East Moline and the Newcomers Club. She enjoyed squared dancing, counted cross stitch and genealogy. Helen and Jim were officers in the Acey Duceys Square Dance Club and the Quad Cities Federation of Square Dance Clubs. Helen & Jim were Secretaries of the Iowa State Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs in 1997 - 1999.
Helen is survived by her husband; daughter, Ruth Davidowitz of Huntington Station, NY,; grandson, Andrew Davidowitz of Huntington Station, NY; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Nellie Kempe
