White River Junction, VT-John D Hawks, Jr. was received by the Lord Tuesday morning, October 16th, 2018. He died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, 6 children, extended family, and of course, by his legacy. John was a caring person who dedicated himself to the service of God, his family, and the community. He touched many lives through his commitment to serving others; especially through his involvement with Scouting and his church. John was a dedicated individual who wanted to ensure everything was done to the highest of standards. His commitment to the Scouting community through the years exemplifies how dedicated he could be. He was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and earned his Wood Badge, two of Scouting’s most prestigious awards for a leader. He enjoyed his involvement in the Scouting community, deepening his desire to perfect the memorability of the experiences he and others would have.

His last act that exemplifies his legacy was creating a golden shovel for his church ground breaking ceremony. Though it was a simple shovel spray painted gold, John believed that any occasion should be marked with celebration. His passion and commitment for this belief is what he will be remembered for. Every holiday will be met with joy, memories to create and share, as will any new life events that take place. His legacy was to enjoy life and remember the good in everything. As we all face the new reality of him being in Heaven, we should all remember that nothing is too small to celebrate, especially without him to remind us of its importance.

Family and friends are invited to John’s calling hours at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Tuesday the 23rd from 6 to 8 PM. His funeral will be held on Wednesday 24th at 1PM at the Valley Bible Church in White River Junction, VT.
