DAVID LESHER CARLSON, 84 TEMPE, AZ – David Lesher Carlson, much loved husband, father and grandfather passed away October 23, 2016, in Tempe, AZ, surrounded by his family. David was born in Rockford, IL November 12, 1931, to Harry F. and Elizabeth Carlson. He was a 1948 graduate of West High School and a 1955 graduate of Drake University. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany.
David became a rabid fan of the Drake Relays and made the trip to Des Moines, Iowa for 50 years. Although a lifelong Cubs fan, he was sorely disappointed in the baseball strike. He came back to full fan status and was aware of the Cubs going to the World Series before passing. He was active in Rockford prior to moving to Arizona. He served as an alderman and was the co-chairman for the building community at Faith Lutheran Church. He was the Vice President, Treasurer and Broker of Carlson Realty Company, Rockford. He continued his real estate career in Arizona where he was a mediator for the Superior Court and JP Courts of Maricopa County and the Real Estate Dispute Resolutions System. He served as the chair for several programs relating to real estate and ended his career as a Realtor Emeritus.
Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn Weyburg. Survived by wife, Phyllis; children, Rebecca (Kelly) Reagan, Ann-Elizabeth (Burton Johnson) Carlson of Kirkland, IL, Dwight Carlson of Lake Balboa, CA, Louis (Teresa) Carlson of La Crescenta, CA, Elizabeth Wood of Phoenix, AZ and Brad (Maria) Wood of Valley Village, CA; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kelland Reagan, Savannah and Blake Johnson, Louis Carlson, Jasmine and Sophie Carlson, Dane Echevarria, and Olivia and Vanessa Wood; brother-in-law, Howard Weyburg and his incredible children and their families; along with an amazing group of lifelong friends. As he gained grandchildren, he garnered an incredible amount of pride in each and every one of them. They gave him so much joy. The same can be said about his nieces and nephew and their children.
The family would like to give a special thank you to St. Luke's Special Care Unit in Phoenix, AZ for all the loving care they provided and to Pastor Kosberg of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Tempe AZ for reminding us about faith and the love that God has for us. A special thank you as well to the staff at Sante of Chandler who saw to his comfort the last few months of his life

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests creating memories for you and your family. Take a page from David's play book and start up your Weber grill, charcoal only, no gas. Grill a London broil to perfection. Serve with corn on the cob and a side of homegrown tomatoes. Make sure you have ice cold Leinies at the ready. Kick back, enjoy your family and friends. Tell tall stories. Plan a bike ride. Laugh and hug often. Repeat."
Arrangements entrusted to Tempe Mortuary.
