April 09, 1928 - January 24, 2018
Hymar Emil Karbach, Jr. went to be with Jesus on the evening of January 24th surrounded by his family. Hylmar was born in New Braunfels to Hylmar Emil Karbach, Sr. and Katherine Taylor Karbach on April 9, 1928.
He was an Eagle Scout. He attended College at the University of Texas in Austin and was Captain of the swim team there. He then attended UT Medical School in Galveston and followed in his father’s footsteps to be a physician. He interned in Chicago, then returned to the New Braunfels area where he met and married the love of his life, Ann Bennett on March 2, 1957. He spent 2 years in the Navy as a physician serving on several destroyers at a time. They returned to New Braunfels and set up his medical practice as a General Surgeon. He was very busy with loving his wife, his 3 children, medical practice, and many hobbies. After retiring from his medical practice, he went on to be the first Medical Director of Hope Hospice New Braunfels, New Braunfels Ambulatory Hospital and assisting other surgeons. Hylmar loved to travel with his wife as they visited 35 countries.
He is survived by his bride, Ann Karbach, his 3 children: Taylor Karbach (and wife Brenda), Amy Mark, and Kate McCarthy (husband Brent); his 6 grandchildren: Kyle Karbach (wife Katie), Emily McCarthy, Harvey Mark, Meghan McCarthy, Korrie Karbach, and Ann Mark; one great grandchild: Mayson Karbach; his 2 sisters: Kathy Kinney and Carole Leissner (husband Layton); many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, he would appreciate any gifts to be given to Hope Hospice New Braunfels (or the charity of your choice).
A private memorial service will be held for the family.
