Tim J. Jansma, age 64 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at his home. Tim was born on September 13, 1952 in Fremont to Raymond and Phyllis (Butterfield) Jansma and later married Rebecca J. “Becky” Loll on December 29, 1988 in Fremont. Becky preceded him in death on September 24, 2014. Tim graduated from Fremont High School, attended Ferris State University and then attended Michigan State University for violin performance but transferred to violin making. Tim moved to Philadelphia where he started his apprenticeship at the shop of William Moennig and later moved to Cremona, Italy where he completed his training for violin making and established the Jansma Violin Shop in 1973. Tim moved back to Fremont in 1977 where he has continued to own and operate the Jansma Violin Shop. Tim was a graduate of the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, Italy and was a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. Tim played in the Grand Rapids and West Shore Symphonies and was a board member at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Tim enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was always eager to learn something new about engines.
Tim is survived by his children, Joe (Shannon) Jansma of Ann Arbor; Audrey Jansma of Kalamazoo; special friend, Carolyn Coleson of Rothbury; his sister, Jennifer (Chris) Chiles of Alvaton, Kentucky; his brother, Jon Jansma of Cleveland, Ohio. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Jansma on February 19, 2013 and by his mother, Phyllis Jansma on June 27, 2015.
