Charles Schonfeld, age 72, recently of Harbor Beach, Michigan (formerly of Imlay City and the Ann Arbor area), passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital – Ann Arbor, MI.  Charles Schonfeld was born Christmas Eve, December 24, 1945 to the late Jack Schonfeld and the late Miriam (Hougom) Schonfeld.  After graduating from Imlay City High School, class Salutatorian, he went on to attend Harvard University.  Then, heeding President John Kennedy's call to service, Charles was among the first Peace Corp volunteers, spending two years in a mountain village in Venezuela.  Even fifty years later, he loved to practice his Spanish language skills!  Charles loved to play chess and was rarely beaten.  His kind nature and sparkling eyes will always be remembered.  He is survived by; former wife: Marta Schonfeld of Ann Arbor, MI; his son: Carlos (& Devy) Schonfeld of Pasadena, California; a daughter-in-spirit: Julia Hawley of Detroit, MI; one sister: Amy Logan of Ann Arbor, MI and three brothers: Michael (Lucy) Schonfeld of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Peter (Julie) Schonfeld of Bath, MI, and David (Leslie) Schonfeld of Oxford, MI; three grandchildren: Rohan Schonfeld, Randev Schonfeld, and Anusha Schonfeld. Charles was preceded in death by; his father: Jack Harold Schonfeld; and his mother, Miriam (Raymond) Schonfeld - Cooper.  Memorial services will be held 1:30 pm Friday, March 16, 2018 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Imlay City. Reverend Doctor Renee Jackson, pastor of the Imlay City First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment of Charles cremated remains will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery with burial next to his parents. The family will be available for visiting 12 noon until 1:30 pm at the church on Friday, March 16th.
