Elizabeth Ann Kent

Born: September 03, 1952
Died: August 16, 2014

Liz left us from the Serenity of the Butterfly Wing at Hospice of Baton Rouge on Saturday, August 16, 2014. She was born September 3, 1952, in Magnolia, MS but grew up in the Village of Tangipahoa, LA. She attended elementary school in Tangipahoa and nearby Kentwood, where she went for her first 3 years of high school. Her last year of high school was spent with her sister, Helen, where she graduated from Hammond High School. After attending LSU and Southeastern, she lived in Baton Rouge until moving to New Orleans, where she worked as the first female TV news camera person in the city-probably one of few in the United States in the 1970's. She moved to Bath, New York in 1985, where she lived until moving back to Tangipahoa, LA in 2005. In Bath, she ran a restaurant, did catering, had a small tearoom for a while and sold radio time and produced commercials prior to coming home to the South. Her last employment was at Kent Veterinary Clinic in Amite, LA. Chronic illness caused her to move to Baton Rouge in 2009, to be closer to her sister, Mary. Liz is survived by her 2 sisters, Mary Kent Thomas of Baton Rouge and Helen Dean Kent of Houston, TX; a niece, Lisa Thomas Richard of New Iberia, LA and a nephew, Stephen Kent Lawlis of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. Kent and Mary B. Kent and her brother, John B. Kent. Other survivors include her beloved dog, Walter and two cats, Mitts and Onyx. Visiting is scheduled for 9 AM until Funeral services at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Tangipahoa Methodist Church, with services conducted by Rev. Kevin Smith. Burial will follow at Tangipahoa Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gilman Richard, Grant Richard, Jim LeBlanc, Stewart LeBlanc and Mike Williams. In lieu of flowers, Liz requested that donations be made to any local, state or national animal welfare, shelter or protection agency of your choice. McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, in charge of arrangements. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.
