Judy Ann Toomey, age 72, of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at her home. She was born in Flint, Michigan on March 2, 1942 the daughter of Robert W. and Loretta C. (Lauch) Sherry. She grew up in Peoria, Illinois and graduated from Woodruff High School in 1960. On November 25, 1961 she was united in marriage to Frederick Bob Toomey Sr. They made their home in Sioux St. Marie, Michigan until moving to Newburg, Indiana in 1964 and then to St.Louis in 1966 and later to Independence in 1971 where they raised their family. In 2007 they retired and moved to the lake area.
Judy was a founding member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Freedom Ladies and Gents. This organization provided aide and assistance to the Bent Tree and Warsaw community and its members. In addition she enjoyed working on crafts, scrapbooking and reading, however the most important time was that spent with her family, especially the grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father Robert Woodrow Sherry, her mother Loretta Clara Azbill and one sister Barbara Joan Cramer.
She is survived by her husband Frederick B. Toomey, Sr., of the home, a son Frederick B. Toomey, Jr. and his wife Angela Kay, of Nixa, Missouri, a daughter, Christine Marie Toomey-Gatschet and her husband Richard Jay of Blue Springs, Missouri, four grandchildren; MacKenzie Alanah Toomey, Dalton Tyler Gatschet, Morgan Ann Gatschet and Cameron Ryann Toomey, one foreign exchange student-daughter Cristina Maria Fuchs-Montiero and her two children of Rome, Italy, a sister, Loretta Marie “Skip” Swanson and her husband David of Bartonville, Illinois, a brother John Boyd Sherry of Belton, Texas, five nephews, two nieces and a host of great nieces and nephews and many beloved friends whom they considered family.
Funeral Services for Judy Ann Toomey will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Frederick B. Toomey, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 5:00 until 6:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Ladies and Gents c/o the Reser Funeral Home 101 W.
