Louis Robert Baca, longtime resident of Alameda, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn New York during the Great Depression. His move westward began in 1947 when he joined the U.S. Navy. His career him to Alameda in 1962, where married Betty Knoop. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked at Hunters Point Shipyard and the Alameda Naval air station. Over the last fifty years, Louis was an active member of the community. He was involved in local politics, volunteer groups, civic organizations, and a member of the Alameda Poets. He is survived by his Brother Richard, his children Ralph, Nannette, George, Kenneth, and Lauren as well as eight grandchildren. Friends and family are invited his visitation Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5 pm to 8pm and funeral service on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the New Beginnings Chapel of the Alameda Funeral and Cremation Services, 1415 Oak Street.
