Clair “Bud” Harbath, age 91 years, of Clintonville passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Maple Lane Health Care Center, Shawano.
Clair Arthur Harbath was born on April 23, 1923 in Stratford, Wisconsin, to Theodore and Mary (Brei) Harbath. As a teenager his family settled in Clintonville and he graduated from high school in 1942. Bud entered the U.S. Army and served overseas in WWII with the 382nd Automatic Anti-Aircraft Squadron from 1943 to 1946. He was united in marriage on May 8, 1948 to Dorothy E. Lang at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. The couple made their home in Clintonville and he was employed as a machinist at FWD Corporation for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. Bud was a member of St. Rose Church and he was active though out the years helping out the Boy Scout Troop, serving as an usher, and volunteering with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Life Member of the VFW Post #664, Clintonville, and always enjoyed their bowling tournaments and pitching on their slow pitch softball team. Bud liked working in his vegetable garden, had the best luck turkey and deer hunting, and always caught the biggest trout. But his favorite pastime was relaxing and fishing up north on Pine Lake at their cottage and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his dear wife of 66 years, Dorothy, and five children; Kathy (David) Mueller of Clintonville, Mike “Harpo” (special friend Sharon Yaeger) Harbath of Clintonville, Mary (Ron) Malueg of Shawano, Jim (Rosemary Knapp) Lang of Clintonville, and Barb (Al) Mueller of Clintonville. There are 10 grandchildren; Rick (special friend Danielle Collins) Krueger, Kim (Chris) Brodwell, Ryan Yaeger, Tanya (Adam) Zuehl, Andy (Chelsea) Malueg, Jenna Malueg, Shawn Knapp, Bob (special friend Mandy Hoffman) Mueller, Kaitlyn Mueller, and Brianne Mueller. There are 10 great grandchildren; Uriah Krueger, Nolan Collins, Ethan & Lily Zuehl, Hope & Paige Malueg, Cohen, Adian, Bently, and Willow Knapp. There is one sister, Eileen St. Onge of Manistique, MI, and one brother, Edward (Connie) Harbath of Navarino. Bud is further survived by many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, one in infancy and Lila Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Fr. John “Jack” Mullarkey will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Military Honors will be provided at the cemetery by members of the VFW Post #664 and the American Legion Post #63, both of Clintonville. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church.
