CHARLES E.PAGE, SR age 85 of 735 Shennecossett Road, Groton ct. passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New London on November 17, 1928 the son of Harry G. and May Crocker Page.
Charlie was married to Roselle Gagnon on September 29, 1951 in Old Saybrook. He worked as a senior designer at Electric Boat Company retiring in 1988 after 38 years with recognition for many innovations to the submarines he helped design. He was also a member of the United States Navy Reserves.
He was a charter member of the Groton Lodge of Elks for 57 years, where he had taken care of the grounds for over 33 years. He was a life member of the Eastern Point Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member and was chairman of the Beach and Park Committee in the City of Groton in 1968.
His great grandchildren will most remember him for being awarded for his inventions on The U.S.S. Nautilus submarine.
Besides his wife he is survived by his sons, Charles E. Page, Jr, of Groton, Glenn of Austin, TX, Jeffrey and his wife Andrea of Waterford and Vernon and his wife Linda of Gales Ferry, his daughter Cheryl Weeks and her husband Arthur of Uncasville, a sister Gertrude Hoffman of Niantic, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition there are many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Roger, Walter, and Harry Page, Jr and his sisters, Doris Avery, Lillian Boiselle, Helen Rice, Evelyn Scully and Harriet Mann, two grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, and all the nurse aides who cared for Dad.
A memorial service will be held at the Groton Lodge of Elks, 700 Shennecossett Road, Groton on Thursday, July 10 at 12 o’clock noon. Interment will be private. Donations in his memory may be directed to the Groton Lodge of Elks or Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St, Norwich, CT 06360
