Roy F. Roper, 97, of Guilford died on June 2, 2014 at the Groton Regency Nursing Home in Groton, CT. He was born in Liberty, South Carolina on May 2, 1917.
As a young boy, at the age of fine, he and his family moved to new haven, CT. After he graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1937, he married the love of his life, Tessie Gorski. He then worked as an electrician at US Steel for thirty-six years.
During his working years, he and his family moved to Branford, CT where he lived for twenty years. He was a deacon and usher at The First Church of Branford.
He then moved to Guilford where he lived for forty-two years. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his property on Durham Road.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tessie of fifty years and later by his dear friend Claire Sullivan of West Haven, CT.
Roy is survived by his son, Roy G. Roper and his wife Carol, of Naples, FL, and Enfield, CT. He is also survived by his daughter, Beverly Platts and her husband Nelson of Groton, CT.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. conducted by Pastor Bruce Peterson of the Groton Heights Baptist Church in the Memorial Chapel at 72 Broad Street, Groton. It will be followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at the All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
